So as many of you know, Wizards of the Coast has released an Open Gaming License for 5th Edition this week as well as launched their platform, the “Dungeon Masters Guild.” Now, I’m not going to pretend that I know all of the ins and outs of what this means for content producers, creatives, and publishing companies, but what I do know is that now people can publish directly to the Guild and gain the reach that the Dungeons and Dragons brand gives them, though it looks like you must be setting compatible with Forgotten Realms and you lose ownership and creative control of that content once it goes onto that site. It is a mixed bag then.
That being said, if one wants to produce an entire campaign world using the 5th Edition rules and then publish and own my work, the OGL now lets me do that. And that is exciting.
Especially for those of us who have always wanted to do that very thing.
