The USS Bonaventure leaves Starbase 117 and heads for Castores and the senior staff has to endure the hell that is a diplomatic function. During that function the ship encounters a subspace anomaly and shudders to a stop, placing the entire crew in danger. Now how will they get out of this situation?
In this episode the senior staff of the USS Bonaventure tackle the Borg at Wolf 359, get their new (but very old) previously mothballed ship, and make their way to Starbase 117, their assigned port of call.
Starbase 117 is a retrofitted Federation starbase that the USS Bonaventure will be tasked to. It was built by a Klingon civilian manufacturing and trade consortium and went operational in 2284, serving as a stronghold of trade and influence for the Klingon Empire during its glory years. It is built into a large, hollowed out asteroid, and is rumoured to be nigh indestructible. It was ceded in a little read section of the Khitomer Accords to the federation, as it was on its way to abandonment anyways. The Federation decided to retrofit it for their purposes and rename it Starbase 117 and it has remained a hub for Federation trade, influence, and force projection in the sector. It is quite old and under resources, with no ships of the line tasked to it. In the sector, it is commonly referred to by its Klingon name, Tep Yap Ios cha’ which translates roughly as Cargo Station 42. However, those who serve in its barren, stone environs and many other, at least outside of earshot of the Command Staff, simply call it the Hole. It is not considered an honour to serve here on the edge of space, and is not a sought after assignment.
Starbase 117 is commanded by Commander Eriko Sulu a hotshot golden child at Starfleet who is very young given that she already has a command. However, she has let it be known that she is very dissatisfied with her post and thinks she is being punished for having a famous great-grandfather.
After the Bonaventure delivers them, the Starbase will have three Danube Class Runabouts assigned to it, the Chaudiere, the Kootenay, and the Columbia.
